Welcome to Appalachian Teaching Fellows

Teaching Fellows Program Update for 2012-13

The Teaching Fellows program at Appalachian prepares future teachers to be the best and brightest! Currently, our students and staff are waiting to hear if the NC Legislature will be reinstating the Teaching Fellows during the short legislative session in May. We are hopeful that we will have a Teaching Fellows freshmen class next year should the program be reinstated in May.

However, we are committed to providing some of the same experiences for incoming freshmen who have declared education as their major. Some of these incoming freshmen education majors will have the following opportunities:

  • Live in the Living Learning Center (LLC) with our Teaching Fellows or with the Future Educators in their residence hall
  • Be mentored by current Teaching Fellows and Future Education students
  • Possibly move in early and participate in freshmen educators' community building activities prior to the start of classes
  • Develop a four-year plan to graduate in four years and participate in our freshmen activities and service events

If you are interested in being a part of the Teaching Fellows' Education Community in the fall of 2012, please contact Jan Stanley, Director, Appalachian State University Teaching Fellows at stanleyjp@appstate.edu or 828-262-7171 or Janice Koppenhaver, Assistant Director, at koppenhaverj@appstate.edu or 828-262-2685. We'd love to have you come visit with us this spring!
